Affiliate Disclosure
Every walk link on this site carries a referral code. Four of the five tours sit on GuruWalk; the fifth, the Melbourne Sights Free Tour run by I'm Free Tours, sits on freetour.com. Booking through either link costs nothing up front, because every walk is pay what you want. If you tip your guide after the walk, a share of that tip comes back to this site, and only then. No guide, company or operator has paid for a place here.
Where The Money Comes From
There is one revenue stream, and it is small and conditional. When a walk booked through a link on this site actually goes ahead and the walker tips the guide, GuruWalk or freetour.com returns a referral share of that tip. No tip means no payment. What you pay never changes either way: the tip is yours to set, and the walk costs nothing to join.
Nothing else on this site earns a cent. There are no banner ads, no sponsored posts, no paid placements, and no fee an operator could pay to appear. If a walk is listed here, it is because it is a real, bookable free tour in Melbourne, not because anyone bought the position.
What Pays Nothing Here
Referral money touches only the five guided walks. The free-entry notes for Melbourne's museums, galleries, gardens and landmarks earn nothing at all, because there is nothing to earn. Whether an institution is listed as free, conditionally free or paid has no bearing on any payment to this site, since no venue pays to be described honestly.
Ratings and review counts appear exactly as each platform publishes them. The walk rated 3.14 across 14 reviews is printed at that figure, not smoothed or hidden. The freetour.com walk's 3,592 reviews stay on their own scale, never blended into the GuruWalk star ratings. A small walk gets the same honest treatment as a large one.
What Money Cannot Buy Here
- No guide or tour company paid for a spot on this page. Each card was earned through an eligibility check confirming the walk is a real, bookable pay-what-you-want tour on GuruWalk or freetour.com.
- No operator can buy a position. Nothing on this site is sponsored.
- Review counts are printed at true size. Marvelous Melbourne appears with its 14 reviews, the I'm Free Tours walk with 3,592, and nothing is rounded up.
- Reserving a place costs nothing. Every walk here runs on tips alone.
- Position on the page is never sold. Melbourne Museum and Eureka Skydeck are described as paid attractions because they are, and no venue can buy softer wording or a higher place.
Numbers Exactly As Published
Star ratings and review counts are copied straight from each walk's own platform page, unrounded and unedited. The GuruWalk walks carry their ratings out of five, while the freetour.com walk carries its review count on its own scale, and the two are never blended into a single number. If a figure looks unflattering, it stays. If a walk has no rating at all, that is what you will read.
You will never find a price quoted for a walk here, for a simple reason: none of these tours charges one. Every walk is free to join, with the tip decided by you at the end. Where an attraction carries a paid component, such as Cooks' Cottage inside the otherwise free Fitzroy Gardens, that is stated plainly rather than priced up or played down.
When To Bypass This Site
This site is a signpost, not a gate. All five walks can be reserved directly on GuruWalk or freetour.com at exactly the same terms, with or without the links here. The free-entry rules for Melbourne's attractions can be checked against each venue's own site. If you would rather go straight to the source, that works too. See the FAQ.
Questions about a listing, a rating or a free-entry rule are welcome through the contact page. The about page explains how the site is put together and why every walk here is free to join. Whichever page you start from, the money story is the same one told above.
